Hi, I’m Dan Copeland and here’s a bit about me. I started playing guitar at age 9 and at age 13, I joined a band with my friend Mike. For the following 7, years Mike and I played played rock and roll together. In the early days, band members came and went through a veritable revolving door. Our criterion for joining the band was a willingness to play and enough money to buy a guitar and amp. Since most of our recruits couldn't play guitar or bass, we taught them. Mike went on the road and I started another band, then worked on a folk duet and played as a single act. Mike continued playing music and now owns a recording studio and record label (Hit Street Records) in Spokane, Washington.

Eventually, I took a different path and became a sheriff’s deputy in my home town: Rupert, Idaho.  After 5 years in law enforcement, I returned to music, my first love.  As co-owner of Andrew-Copeland Music, I taught guitar and bass in our music store for 6 years and formed another band that played in clubs in the Magic Valley.  However, with an ever worsening economy and struggling to keep band members motivated, I finally threw in the towel.

I returned to the criminal justice system as a probation and parole officer in Blackfoot, and over the past 22 years I’ve held too many positions to bother mentioning here. During my career, I attend training for trainers provided by the US Department of Justice and have served as a trainer/consultant for the National Institute of Corrections in the states of Washington, Colorado, and Alaska.

Since training has been a part of my job for over twenty years, I’m comfortable teaching adults.  While it’s not directly related to guitar lessons, I spent several years coaching both my son and daughter’s soccer teams, which provided a valuable experience teaching kids.

Now that I’m nearing retirement, I’ve decided to return to my first love.  I long ago realized that my creator endowed me with a small measure of talent, and my parents made great sacrifices to give me the gift of music.  Now I share that gift with others.

I’m studio is a comfortable room isolated from the hustle and bustle of our common American home complete with two teenagers.  As you pass through our home to the studio you will likely meet my wife, Liz.  Liz is a special education teacher at Boise, High. Go Braves! If you glance at the computer in our family room, you will most likely see my son, Chris, a 9th grader at East Junior High. Go Hornets! If it’s not volley ball season, you may see my daughter, Kim, a senior at Timberline. Go Wolves! Kim plans to attend BSU next year. Go Broncos! (Note: lessons may be canceled in the event of a BSU football game.)
